How to Clean Car Speakers

Cleaning car speakers is a simple process that can help improve the sound quality of your car's audio system. Not to mention the fact that having clean doors but dirty speaker covers looks pretty awful. Here are some detailed instructions to clean car speakers:

Materials needed:

  • Soft bristle detailing brush and/or drill brush

  • Microfiber cloth

  • All-Purpose Clean ("APC")

  • Vacuum

  • Air Compressor w/ Tornador extension (Optional)

Instructions:

  • Remove any trash/debris/personal items from doors. Set aside any emergency tools, such as window punch/seatbelt cutter/etc., and remember to replace & secure them where you know you'll have easy access.

  • Vacuum any dirt, sand, etc.... Having compressed air will make quick work of anything that's loose.

  • Using your soft bristle brush, gently remove any loose dirt or dust from the surface of the speakers. Be sure to avoid using any abrasive cleaning supplies that will scratch the plastic or fabric speaker covers.

  • Spray All-Purpose Cleaner ("APC") sparingly, taking precautions to avoid spray directly in the speaker holes

  • Repeat Step #3.

  • Gently wipe down the surface of the speakers with your microfiber towel. Be careful not to press too hard, as this can damage the speakers.

  • If dirt remains, repeat Step #3. Otherwise, use vacuum cleaner to carefully suck out any APC that remains in the "holes" of the speakers.

  • (Optional) Use the Tornador (or comparable compressed air accessory) to blast any cleaner left behind.

... and that's it! If you're lucky, you'll only have to do this 4x (one speaker in each door). Larger vehicles like BMW X5 ONLY have 16 speakers!
